Our Story & Mission

Environmental Medicine and Toxicology (EMT) was founded on a pivotal realization: the health of humanity is inextricably linked to the health of our environment. As novel chemicals emerge, climate patterns shift, and ecosystems face unprecedented stress, understanding the toxicological implications and medical consequences has never been more urgent.

EMT was launched to create a dedicated, interdisciplinary forum that moves beyond siloed research. We actively integrate the laboratory bench, the clinical bedside, and the community field site. Our mission is to advance knowledge on the etiology, diagnosis, prevention, and management of diseases caused or influenced by environmental factors, thereby contributing to the development of sustainable and healthy societies.

Our Ethos: Rigor, Relevance, and Responsibility. We uphold the highest standards of scientific integrity and peer review. We prioritize research with clear relevance to human health or ecosystem protection. We feel a profound responsibility to publish work that can inform responsible action—from the physician treating a patient with environmental exposure to the policymaker drafting new safety regulations.

Peer review process: We ensure the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts, as outlined in our Author Guidelines. Each submitted article undergoes an initial assessment by the editor to determine its suitability. Eligible articles are then sent to at least two independent expert reviewers for a comprehensive evaluation of their scientific quality. The corresponding author will be promptly informed of the editor's decision to accept, reject, or request revisions. The review process typically takes around two months, although this time frame can vary. Once a manuscript is deemed suitable, it is generally sent for review within one week.
